would advise on

On the 25th and 29th July Mr Pauncefotë

also addressed the Government urging Similar

claims, and these letters were also submitted

to the Attorney General.

The Attorney General on the 54

of August returned Mr. Pauncefote's Letters

and one

of

Mr Pollard's, and in his-

reply he states_ "The Crown has

no

right

"to dispose of goods which were not the "property of the convict but merely stored "On board the Chop" (Receiving ship), and again "My advice is that the applicants "be informed that the Crown cannot "'interfere in any way.'
